Palolem beach
Palolem has the most picturesque beach in South Goa. The beach is surrounded by a generous forest of coconut palm trees giving it a carpet of green all over. Blue waters, golden sands and greenery all around. Almost 2 kms long Palolem is a crescent shaped beach which has a natural cove with cool blue waters to swim in.
Palolem beach is shown as the Indian residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004). The initial footage in the movie gives a good idea of the natural beauty of the beach - the distinctive tree covered rocks at one end known locally as Conco Island or Monkey Island - to which boat rides are organized.
The beach is largely unspoiled and is inhabited by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore. One can view the whole beach from either end. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea. The depth of the sea increases gradually, it being shallowest at the northern ends of the beach, making it safe for average swimmers, and the currents are not fast.
Everyone, from long term travelers to package tourists, seems to have found an appropriate place for themselves on Palolem Beach. As a result, you'll find completely different atmospheres at the north and south ends of the beach. The quieter and laid back north tends to attract families, while backpackers congregate in the south where the party scene is.
Palolem is one of the most beautiful beach in all of Goa. It is surrounded by hills on both sides, resulting in a calm, idyllic sea in which you can walk into up to 100 metres. Palolem is quite small, so easy to explore on foot.
